The catalogue raisonné states that this print was published in a numbered edition of 200, with 30 Artist’s Proof, 5 Printer’s Proofs, and 25 Trial Proofs, printed in New York by Rupert Jasen Smith. The edition of 200 is also signed by Kain.
In 1979, Andy Warhol began incorporating diamond dust into his prints, as seen in this striking portrait of Karen Kain. Based on a Polaroid taken by the artist, the composition is tightly cropped, with her face framed by her hands and set against vivid, layered planes of colour, the shimmering surface heightening its impact. The result is a poised and arresting image that feels both immediate and enduring.
