The process begins with a gold ink base, densely packed with metallic pigment and glitter, which is then layered with vibrant red ink. This method produces a striking visual effect, where intricate illustrations emerge through negative space.

The artwork is a compelling fusion of traditional Chinese symbolism and contemporary socio-political commentary. Ai Weiwei depicts himself as a Door God, a powerful figure in Chinese folklore believed to protect homes from harmful forces.
