Rein [Reyn], Toomas
(b Tallinn, 17 April 1940). Estonian architect. He graduated in 1967 from the architectural faculty of the Estonian SSR State Art Institute, Tallinn. He began building before the completion of his education, and his first major building, the administrative building (1966–73) of the Linda collective farm, was awarded the State Prize for Architecture of the Estonian SSR in 1975. In this, and a series of similar public projects in Estonia, the strong influence of the Finnish school, particularly Aalto, is discernible. Characteristic uses of space, light and traditional materials of brick and wood are apparent in the administrative buildings (1973–7) of the Sverdlov collective farm, Tsooru, and the fire department building in Viljandi.
