Mazeline, Pierre

(b Rouen, 1632; d Paris, 7 Feb 1708). French sculptor. He was received (reçu) into the Académie Royale in 1668, with an oval, marble bas-relief of St John the Evangelist (Paris, Louvre). Immediately after, he was inundated with commissions for interior and exterior decorations for the French royal residences and he worked for the Bâtiments du Roi for the rest of his career. This work included models and ornaments for fountains (especially for the châteaux of Versailles and later of Marly), statues and vases, and sculptures for the church of Notre-Dame and for the Grand Commun (now Hôpital Militaire) at Versailles, as well as for the Invalides, Paris. At his death, Mazeline was still working on trophies for the chapel at the château of Versailles.
