Master of Seeon

( fl c. 1420–40). German sculptor. His name is derived from the Benedictine abbey at Seeon, which formerly housed the Virgin and Child Enthroned (h. 1.08 m, c. 1428–35; Munich, Bayer. Nmus.). He was probably trained in Salzburg as a stone-carver, perhaps in the workshop that produced a column statue of the Virgin (c. 1425; Salzburg, Peterskirche). He must also, however, have studied with a wood-carver, as limewood became his chosen medium. The geographical distribution of the works attributed to him suggests that he settled in Mühldorf, south-east Bavaria.

Part of the Masters, anonymous, and monogrammists family
