Pseudo-Bles [Pseudo-Blesius]

( fl c. 1520). South Netherlandish painter. His paintings form the principal foundation of the style now called ANTWERP MANNERISM. His name is taken from the apocryphal signature HENRICVS BLESIVS F, which has since been erased, on the Adoration of the Magi (Munich, Alte Pin.). It was on the basis of this work that many paintings were formerly attributed to Herri met de Bles. Michiels and Glück pointed out that this signature was probably false and showed that the group of paintings associated with it were not the work of one hand and could certainly not be attributed to met de Bles.

Part of the Masters, anonymous, and monogrammists family
