Master of the Antwerp Adoration

( fl c. 1520). South Netherlandish painter. The conventional name was given by Friedländer (1915) and derives from a triptych depicting the Adoration of the Magi (Antwerp, Kon. Mus. S. Kst.). The artist belongs to the group of the so-called Antwerp Mannerists (see ANTWERP MANNERISM). His oeuvre consists of small triptychs and panels, apparently for private devotion. The discovery, on the Master’s triptych of the Adoration of the Magi (Brussels, Mus. A. Anc.), of a monogram G and a presumed self-portrait, probably at the age of c. 25, has led to speculation about his identity.

Part of the Masters, anonymous, and monogrammists family
