(2) Jan van Logteren

(b Amsterdam, bapt 9 March 1709; d Amsterdam, bur 11 Oct 1745). Son of (1) Ignatius van Logteren. He was his father’s pupil and assistant and perpetuated his style. He worked mostly in Amsterdam and Haarlem. His sensitive style can be distinguished from that of his father by the incorporation of Régence, Rocaille and even early Romantic elements. His works in Amsterdam include the interior stucco decoration (1733) of Herengracht 168 and the exterior and interior work (1736) at Herengracht 475. In Haarlem Jan van Logteren executed the organ of the Grote Kerk and the exterior and interior of Kruisweg 45 (both 1735–8). In Loenen, near Utrecht, he was responsible for the interior stucco decoration of ‘Nieuwerhoek’. He also made garden statues for ‘Oostermeer’ in Oudekerk, near Amsterdam, and for ‘Manpad’ in Bennebroek, near Haarlem (both 1734; Amsterdam, Rijksmus.).

Part of the Logteren, van family
