Lélu, Pierre

(b Paris, 13 Aug 1741; d Paris, 9 June 1810). French painter, draughtsman and engraver. He was a pupil of Boucher and of Gabriel-François Doyen. He travelled to Italy for the first time c. 1761, making copies of works by Raphael, Domenichino and other celebrated artists. Around 1775 he travelled to Spain and Portugal, then back to Italy. In 1777 he was in Marseille, where he was made a member of the academy. He then travelled to Paris, where he made the acquaintance of Michel-François Dandré-Bardon; in 1789 he made a third Italian journey.
