Lamprechts [Lambrechtz], Arendt

(b Emden; d before 4 April 1623). German painter, active in Sweden. He moved to Sweden in 1585; as well as working at Borgholm, Vadstena and Stockholm, he decorated Kalmar Slott in Småland. His best-known works are the monumental grisaille wall paintings depicting biblical scenes in a Mannerist style, among them the Story of Samson (1585), in the Grey Hall at Kalmar. He has also been considered as a portrait painter: an extremely fine painting of the royal secretary Sven Elofsson (1595; Bålsta, Skoklosters Slott) has been attributed to him, as has a portrait of Erik Sparre (1595; Skåne, Kronovall Mansion).
