Jerichau.
Danish family of artists. The sculptor (1) J. A. Jerichau married the painter and writer Elisabeth Baumann (b 27 Nov 1819; d 11 July 1881) in Rome in 1846. Her background (she was born in the country house of Jolibord near Warsaw) and her training made her work closer to the European tradition than to contemporary Danish nationalist tendencies. Their son Harald Jerichau (b 18 Aug 1851; d 6 March 1878) became a painter of genre scenes and landscapes largely related to his extensive travels in Europe. His brother Holger Hvitfeldt Jerichau (b 29 April 1861; d 25 Dec 1900), also a painter, travelled widely in Europe, Russia and India, although some of his autumn and winter landscapes from his youth in Denmark are among his most successful works. Holgers son (2) Jens Adolf Jerichau is regarded as the first Danish Expressionist painter. The following members have entries:
