(3) Pierre-Jules Hutin

(b Paris, 1723–4; d Schloss Muskau, Silesia, 1763). Sculptor, draughtsman and engraver, brother of (2) Charles-François Hutin. He was a pupil of Guillaume Coustou (i) and was working at the Sèvres manufactory in 1741. In 1748 he followed his brother Charles-François to Dresden where he assisted him with drawings for the Recueil d’estampes d’après les plus célèbres tableaux de la Galerie Royale de Dresde and made engravings for the Recueil d’estampes gravées d’après les tableaux de la galerie et du cabinet de S. E. M. le Comte de Brühl. The period of the Seven Years War (1756–63) was not an auspicious moment for the arts and he ended his career at Schloss Muskau, the seat of Graf von Callenberg in Silesia. None of his sculptures is known to survive and he worked mainly as an engraver after the Old Masters and works by his brother Charles-François.

Part of the Hutin family
