Geyer, (Karl Ludwig) Otto

(b Charlottenburg [now Berlin], 8 Jan 1843; d Berlin, 25 March 1914). German sculptor. He trained for several years at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and studied with the sculptor Hermann Schievelbein. On the latter’s death in 1867 Geyer took over one of his studios and then worked as an independent sculptor in Berlin. He first showed sculptural works at the exhibition of the Akademie in 1868 and then regularly took part in exhibitions in Berlin. In 1891 he took up a teaching post at the Technische Hochschule in Berlin-Charlottenburg (being awarded a professorship in 1893) and he published several educational essays on human anatomy and issues in the politics of education.
