(4) Antonio Galli-Bibiena

(b Parma, 16 Jan 1700; d ?Mantua, 1774). Son of (1) Ferdinando Galli-Bibiena. He was a pupil of Giuseppe dal Sole and later of Marcantonio Franceschini. In 1718 he began to assist his father on theatre decoration and scene-painting in Bologna and in nearby Cento and Fano. He also spent some time with his uncle, (2) Francesco Galli-Bibiena, in Rome, on similar projects. After returning briefly to Bologna, he went in 1721 to join his elder brother (3) Giuseppe Galli-Bibiena in Vienna. There he contributed regularly to the elaborate theatrical entertainments, and in 1727 was officially appointed as his brother’s deputy in the post of ‘Theatralingenieur’.
