Champaigne, de.
French family of painters of Flemish origin. (1) Philippe de Champaigne was celebrated for his portraits and for his religious compositions and landscapes, as well as large-scale secular decorative works. He became portrait painter to the court of Louis XIII and subsequently worked for Louix XIV; his clients included the nobility, ministers of state and religious communities. His nephew and pupil (2) Jean-Baptiste de Champaigne was best known for his large-scale compositions and his decorative work. The following members have entries:
