(2) Marie Cazin [née Guillet]
(b Paimboeuf, 1845; d Boulogne, 18 March 1924). Sculptor and decorative artist, wife of (1) Jean Charles Cazin. At first she decorated ceramics, winning admiration during the 1870s for her stoneware pieces. She exhibited sculptural pieces annually at the Salon from 1876 until the first decade of the 20th century, some of which reflect her early training in the studio of the animal painter Rosa Bonheur. It was possibly in Bonheurs studio that Marie was introduced to the value of working in bronze, her chosen medium for The Regret (1885) and Science and Charity (1893; both untraced), works which demonstrate her interest in figural groupings with symbolic overtones. Marie received a certain amount of recognition during her extremely productive career. Her reputation was overshadowed by that of her husband, but in 1893 she shared with him the honour of having one of her works, a bronze head of David (untraced), purchased by the Musée du Luxembourg.
