(2) Marco dell’Angolo del Moro

(b ?Verona, c. 1537; d after 1586). Painter, draughtsman and printmaker, son of (1) Battista dell’Angolo del Moro. He was taught by his father and collaborated with him in 1557 on fresco decorations in the Palazzo Treviso at Murano, where Marco was active for most of his career. Among his surviving altarpieces is one painted for S Bartolommeo, Murano (1570; Venice, Accad.). Like his father, Marco is now better known for the ten etchings confidently attributed to him. Among these, Hercules and the Hydra (B. 6) stands out for its bold lines and fantastic subject. The print of Augustus and the Tiburtine Sibyl (B. 3), which combines etching and engraving, exemplifies the importance of the landscape subject for Veronese etchers and the continuing influence of landscape prints after Titian (such as those by Cornelis Cort). Marco also made numerous reproductive prints.

Part of the Angolodel Moro, dell’ family
