Gregory Crewdson (amerikanisch, geb. 1962) ist vor allem für seine Fotografien bekannt, die aufwendig inszenierte Landschaften mit Szenen aus dem Vorstadtleben als Motiv verwenden. Geboren wurde er in Park Slope in Brooklyn, New York. Crewdson war als Teenager Mitglied einer Punk-Rock-Band und machte später an der State University of New York seinen BFA. Nach seinem MFA an der Yale University 1988 begann Crewdson mit seiner ersten Foto-Serie Natural Wonder, in dieser werden in inszenierten Szenen die grotesken Erlebnisse aus einer Mischung von Paranoia, Lust und Fantasie in den kleinen Vororten dargestellt.

Crewdsons folgende Serien Hover (1995) und Twilight (2003) dokumentieren dramatische und auch seltsame Begebenheiten in typischen Mittelklassen-Nachbarschaften. Bizarre und erschütternde Szenen in doch gewöhnlichem Umfeld entstehen. Seit 1993 ist Crewdson Professor an der Yale University, wo er bis heute lehrt und arbeitet. Crewdsons Fotografien haben sich bei Galerien und zahlreichen Ausstellungen, darunter auch in der White Cube Galerie in London, als erfolgreicher Publikumsmagnet bewiesen. Seine Werke wurden für die amerikanische Fernsehserie Six Feet Under (2001–2005) für Werbezwecke verwendet.
