Moe Brooker Moments Hesitation: Recent Work June 28 - July 28, 2006
An exhibition of Moe Brooker’s exuberant, brilliantly colored new abstract paintings is currently being shown at the June Kelly Gallery and will remain on view through July 28.
In this new exhibition, entitled Moments Hesitation, Brooker continues his exploration of “inner space, something cosmic and eternal and imagined,” says art writer Roberta Fallon in her essay in the exhibition catalogue. “Brooker is a positivist, and his works reflect the optimism of his spirit.”
His outlook, she writes, “comes from his deep connection to the spiritual. His term for this state of being is ‘unspeakable joy’ … an embrace of life – of God, the universe and humanity. And for Brooker there’s no better way to express the joy than in painting.”
“Brooker’s art is a drink from a deep well, and that is a generous gift,” Fallon concludes.
Brooker, who lives and works in Philadelphia, holds BFA and MFA degrees from Tyler School of Fine Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. His work is represented in many collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Progressive Insurance Company and General Motors Corporation.
