ALAN KOPPEL GALLERY
806 North Dearborn Street
Chicago, IL 60610
Alan Koppel Gallery is pleased to present our inaugural exhibition on Dearborn Street of works by French Nouveau Realist Jacques Villeglé. For nearly sixty years, Villeglé has created works on canvas composed of ripped and layered remnants of posters taken from the streets and subways of European cities. Through a process known as décollage, Villeglé’s fragmented canvases both obscure and reveal the archeological remains of contemporary popular culture. His “lacerations” result in unexpected juxtapositions of image, text, and color that celebrate the détournement of the post-war French avant-garde. His work is included in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and many others.
Gallery Hours:
Monday- Friday 10 am-5:30 pm
Saturday: by appointment
