Andréhn-Schiptjenko at Art |43| Basel, 14 – 17 June, 2012
Booth K18, Hall 2.1
Siobhán Hapaska (b 1963, Ireland) Four Angels, a
new sculpture made of selenite, concrete,
aluminium, LED-lights and electrical wiring,
bearing her signature hallmark of the organic
with industrial, the spiritual with exact
craftsmanship. Hapaska recently had a highly
acclaimed solo-exhibition at the gallery and is
due to have major solo-exhibitions at La
Conservera, Murcia Spain and MOMA Oxford in the
coming year.
Tony Matelli, (b 1971, US), Josh, an incredibly
sensitive rendering of a man untethered from his
surroundings, floating just inches off the
ground. Despite his wide gaze, his body appears
vacated, uninhabited, a mere shell. He is both
the deserted island and the water lapping the
shore. Matelli was awarded the Falkenrot Preis
last year and had an accompanying exhibition at
The Kunstlerhaus Bethanien. A Human Echo, a
major mid-career retrospective will open at the
ARoS Kunstmuseum in Denmark in September 2012
and subsequently travel to Bergen Kunstmuseum in
Norway.
Xavier Veilhan, (b 1963, F) Mobile No6, a new
and unique mobile consisting of suspended carbon
rods, as well as David, a small-scale figure
made of solid makassar ebony, both
representative of Veilhan’s diverse sculptural
practice. Veilhan’s work is currently shown in
an extensive exhibition at Hatfield House,
Hertfordshire England and upcoming solo projects
include Architectones in Richard Neutra’s VDL
Research House in Silverlake, Los Angeles in
August 2012, solo-exhibition at La Conservera,
Murcia, Spain in September and (In)Balance at
Phillips Collection, Washington in November.
Cajsa von Zeipel (b 1983, SE) works in a largethan-
life-format with explicit references to
fashion as well as to the masters of the
Renaissance. At the center of her interest is
the teenage girl with her familiar attributes;
ponytails, platform shoes and a provocative
attitude. Traditional power structures are
broken down and the hierarchies between object
and viewer are dislocated. Hater, her most
recent work, embodies all of this and stares
aggresively back at the viewer. von Zeipel will
have her first solo-exhibition at Andréhn-
Schiptjenko in September 2012.
