Opening Night - Thursday, 14 March 2013, 7-9pm
After all these years is a solo exhibition by Singaporean artist Safaruddin Bin Abdul Hamid, better know as "Dyn".
Dyn's latest show explores a selection of significant architecture in Singapore, buildings that have not only contributed to the history of the city but spaces that have been repurposed in ways their original builders never foresaw. The Arts House, the Asian Civilizations Museum, the St. James Power Station, the McDonald House, the Old Hill Street Police Building, these structures have withstood the test of time to experience a second and sometimes even a third life, creating a place for themselves in the lives of generations of Singaporeans.
Dyn's 2011 show also featured familiar local buildings, but used soft edges and shadowy detail that provided a nostalgic and dreamlike quality to the structures. In After all these years Dyn uses a super flat composition absent of any organic matter, but here his crisp, certain edges assure us that these buildings are very present, very relevant and still actively contributing to the city. These structures stand tall and proud bathed in Dyn's familiar candy colours, reminding us that they have quite a bit of life in them yet.
