Opening Reception: Friday, May 25, 2012, 5-7 P.M.
Abstract expressionist Jennifer Jones gives voice to her personal journey of introspection
via light-dappled paintings that revel in the color, sensuality and wonder of nature. The natural
world’s inherent contradictions---randomness and order, strength and fragility---are evoked
through her intricate layering technique, which creates a kind of luminosity radiating from
deep within the paintings.
“This new series became more abstracted as I worked on it,” says the artist. “Nature
continues to provide me with endless inspiration and always seems to parallel whatever
is going on in my life: personal growth, lessons learned, relationships evolving.”
New to this series is her use of a pattern and print technique, where she creates blocks
of color by painting on pieces of wax paper and pressing them against the wooden
panel rather than using a brush directly on the surface. The result is subtly different from
her previous work, with a brighter palette and a more playful voice.
Jones will be present at the opening on Friday, May 25, to discuss her inspiration and
the techniques she employs to create her complex, beautifully realized surfaces.
The show continues through June 10, 2012.
