Chris Armstrong & Peter Kirkiles    3. Dez , 2011 - 22. Jan 2012

Opening Reception: Saturday, December 3rd, 5-7 pm

KENT, CONNECTICUT – A new exhibit of works by American painter Chris Armstrong and sculptor Peter Kirkiles at The Morrison Gallery opens on December 3rd and will run through January 22, 2012 with an opening reception Saturday, December 3, from 5 – 7 PM.

Chris Armstrong studied painting and art history in Florence, Italy before receiving his BA from Bucknell University. After graduation, Chris went on to receive his MFA from NYU where he won the school's MVP award and exhibited at Washington Square East Galleries. Chris' work was recently selected for the U.S. State Department's 'Art in Embassies Exhibition.'

Chris' dramatic waterscape paintings convey the essence of the sea – an unpredictable and changing nature, a reflective and illuminated beauty, and the ability to inspire a sense of vastness. Crossing from dark ominous blues and crashing waves to serene sunlit calm in soft tones, his paintings succeed in capturing the graceful movement and luminosity of water. Chris lives in Gloucester, Massachussets.

Peter Kirkiles refers to himself as an "industrial artist" a term which aptly applies to his working method. After graduating with a BFA from Tufts University with a major in Studio Art from The School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Kirkiles went to work in the true journeyman tradition honing his industrial skills in workshops and factories across the country. Kirkiles' industrial journey brought him access to invaluable process-knowledge now captured in his artwork. It wasn't until he went to graduate school to get his Masters in Fine Art at The Cranbrook Academy of Art that he began to fully break stride in finding his applied working method for his art process. Kirkiles resides in South Kent, Connecticut.

The Morrison Gallery is a 7,000 square foot space in Kent at 8 Old Barn Road, near the corner of Routes 341 and 7. The gallery is home to an on-going schedule of exhibitions by prominent local and national artists.
