The Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery, specializing in contemporary art since 1995, has been selected to represent the Dominican Republic for the first time, in the internationally prestigious art fair "VOLTA New York 2013", which will showcase the works of Dominican artist based in Brooklyn, Gerard Ellis, between march 7-10, debuting a in new location; 82 Mercer Street, Soho, New York, along with the celebration of the iconic art fair "The Armory Show".

In its 6th edition in NY, and a conquered territory at Art Basel over the last 9 years, VOLTA is catapulted as one of the most reputable contemporary international art fairs, with a particular feature, that is its specialization in solo show projects, under the curatorial rigor of being selected by invitation. A total of 94 participating galleries from 6 continents, showcasing contemporary artists from 38 countries, with an innovative dynamic, will give an idea of the new aesthetic and conceptual art currently emerging.

Lyle O. Reitzel has curated a selection of new paintings, by the renowned emerging artist Gerard Ellis, produced especially for VOLTA, his first ever solo show in New York, titled "The Land They Transformed". Ellis, born in Santo Domingo in 1976 and based in New York since 2007, is one of the highest representatives of the new generation of dominican artists.

Cuban poet and writer Wendy Guerra have said about his work: “the hand of Gerard Ellis recreates the traumatic intervention of a trace over white that doesn’t leave the canvas and, like Yves Klein, transfers the weakest creatures onto the perfect stain. If he comes close to pureness, is just to erase his prints with a silky rubber, emphatic in the art of evaporating inaccurate fingerprints.”

Gerard Ellis has been recognized with various awards such as: “Premio en Pintura” Leon Jimenes Biennial 2004, Centre Leon Jimenes, Santiago, RD. ‘Excellence Award’ 2008 and 2009, Society of News Design. Participated in "The S-Files" during the 6th Biennial Museo del Barrio in New York. His works are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Latin-American Art, Long Beach, California. Collection Cortés, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, Collection León Jimenes, Santiago, DR, among others.
