As is traditional, the Galerie St. Etienne’s summer installation features RECENT ACQUISITIONS, and also recaps highlights of the past year’s exhibition program.

Over the course of its 2011-2012 season, the Galerie St. Etienne examined women’s representation in Austrian and German art of the early twentieth century, reflected on the changing field of self-taught art, and traced contemporary artist Sue Coe’s steadfast commitment to various social issues through a major exhibition of new and old works. This year’s RECENT ACQUISITIONS exhibition features rare oil paintings by George Grosz and Arnold Schoenberg, a wonderful selection of drawings by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, prints by Max Beckmann and Erich Heckel, and important oils and works on paper by Marie-Louise Motesiczky. Rounding out the show are groupings of works by Sue Coe, Grandma Moses, and Josef-Karl Rädler, and an oil painting by John Kane.

RECENT ACQUISITIONS is documented by a comprehensive checklist, which is available free of charge by mail, or can be downloaded from our website: http://www.gseart.com. The accompanying essay contains the Galerie St. Etienne’s annual “state of the market” report, which this year discusses the “authentication crisis.”
