Leonard Everett Fisher Celebrates America’s Favorite Pastime: BASEBALL    4. Okt - 1. Nov 2012

15 E. 71st Street, Suite 2a, New York, NY 10021

The inaugural exhibition at Cavalier Galleries’ new Manhattan location will feature the work of Pulitzer Prize winning, native New York artist Leonard Everett Fisher. Fisher’s series of 11 paintings are a celebration of America’s favorite pastime: Baseball. In Leonard Everett Fisher’s collection of paintings, the players are purposely not identified as legendary players or professional teams, but are each given a Greek letter, symbolizing their position in the game. Having illustrated, and often authored, over 200 children’s books, Fisher’s distinctive style shines through as the story of a baseball game is played out through this series of paintings. Fisher’s artistic studies included training at New York’s Heckscher Foundation with Moses and Raphael Soyer, as well as with Reginald Marsh at the Art Students League of New York, and Serge Chermayeff at Brooklyn College. After serving in the army, Fisher went on to receive his BFA and MFA from Yale University, and in 1950 was honored with a Pulitzer Award for painting. Fisher’s paintings, drawings and illustrations can be found in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Postal History, the New York Public Library, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the Society of Illustrators Museum of American Illustration.
