During November and December, the George Adams Gallery will exhibit new paintings by Alain Vaës. The exhibition, which includes 8 new large-scale canvases, is the artist’s second solo show with the gallery, and expands on his earlier use of the repeating tile technique format.

In this new body of work, Vaës depicts densely foliated environments, ominously populated by predator and prey alike. In paintings such as “Crows and Toads” or “Orchids and Scorpions”, and especially “Water Lilies and Carp,” the dominant pattern slowly reveals the presence of other, slightly ominous and well-camouflaged animals and insects.

Aside from his paintings, Vaës has also designed critically acclaimed sets and costumes for the New York City Ballet, and has also illustrated several children’s books. Born in Beziers, France in 1952. Vaës was educated at the École des Beaux in Montpellier and the École National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Nice. He has had one-man exhibitions at the Morgan Library in New York and at the Fort Worth Art Museum. Vaës currently lives and works in Peekskill, New York.
