VIP Preview December 3, 5:30-10 p.m.

Claire Oliver Gallery is pleased to announce that we will be once again participating in Miami’s founding art fair: Art Miami. Now in its 24th year, Art Miami runs December 3-8. Our stand, C9, will showcase major new works by Beth Lipman, Gabi Trinkaus, Bernardi Roig, and announcing the collaborative works of Diggs & Hillel.

Works by Beth Lipman include a 12 x 8 foot wall piece Untitled Tropical Landscape, highlighting her signature cut and mouth blown glass. Working with a vocabulary culled from Renaissance and Baroque still-life paintings, the Artist employs clear fragile glass as a metaphor reflecting our current consumer obsessed society. On December 5th, Lipman will be speaking in a symposium organized by the Rutgers Institute for Women and Art. The “Symposium on Collecting Women Artists,” hosted by Art Miami, takes place at 9 a.m. For more information please contact the gallery.

Using one large-format camera between them, Diggs & Hillel work collaboratively to document the changing nature of “community” and its meaning to different generations. The Artists’ raw visceral content create pictures that expand our visual vocabulary. A generation apart, Diggs & Hillel see the neglected inner city in a new light: by combining the 'immediacy of moment' street photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Walker Evans used and the perfection of line only a large format camera can produce, the artists have created a new visual language.

A preview of the next exhibition in the gallery, our stand will feature new charcoal drawings and sculpture by Bernardi Roig. The studio practice of Bernardi Roig speaks of society at the edges, caught in a time tainted by the loss of historical memory and identity. The Artist works in a wide variety of media, but always focuses on the conflicts that arise from the lack of communication between us. In a mass media-addled world, Roig’s individuals lose the ability to distinguish truth from fiction and important issues from trivial concerns.

Using small torn shards of print media culled from glossy beauty magazines, Gabi Trinkaus makes collages that comment on the image of the “perfect human” as our superficially obsessed society sees it today. Trinkaus’s “head shots” attempt to peal back the sexy surface and delve deeper into the psyche of loneliness and self doubt fleeting physical beauty can create.

The fair will commence on Dec. 3, 2013, with Art Miami's highly anticipated Opening Night VIP Preview. Contact the gallery for more information or tickets.
