The Andipa Gallery has released dates for its Damien Hirst – Works on Paper exhibition as 11th February to 5th March 2005.

50 drawings, small paintings and signed prints from the Andipa collection will be available for acquisition, including ‘Red Spin’, a small spin painting with household gloss paint on paper; ‘Valium’, a Lambda print on Fuji Gloss photographic paper, signed, edition of 500; ‘Cineole’, a recently released etching comprising 61 colour spots, signed, edition of 145; and ‘Relationships’ from 1991 ICA exhibition, a mini installation of a glass filled with water and a ping-pong ball.

The Andipa Gallery opened its London doors 35 years ago and remains one of the most successful Walton Street art dealers. They specialize in original paintings and prints by famous modern and contemporary artists. Their first show of 2005 is a major retrospective on Damien Hirst’s original work and unique prints.

Mr Hirst has established himself as the foremost Young British Artist and his legacy will continue to impact the arts. His Pharmacy Sale at Sotheby’s was expected to raise about £3 million, but in reality, he walked away with a record £11 million. There has been a significant increase in his popularity and demand for his prints, especially his spot etchings.

The exhibition will focus on works on paper including his famous and much sought after print, Valium – which has increased in value from £1,000 - £10,500 (publishers prices) in 4 years. His complete set of Last Supper: 13 pharmaceutical prints bearing the names of traditional British faire such as Steak & Kidney, Corned Beef, and Sausages. In addition, The Andipa Gallery is one of the few dealers selected to sell Hirst’s new prints, Cineole, Cinchonidine and Ciclopirox Olamine. An edition of 148 with a launch price of £7,000 + VAT.

A number of original spin paintings on paper will be available between £3,000 and £7,000 from his earlier work in the 1990’s, and several personal drawings given to friends, including one given to the doorman at the Met Bar when the artist frequented the famous nightspot.

The Andipa Gallery will be giving away rare Hirst beer glasses to all buyers during the exhibition period. These glasses have become sought after collectables and are limited in the number available.

A 40-page illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition with a preface by Sarah Kent, art critic for Time Out and author of Shark Infested Waters, an exploration of the Saatchi Collection.

Press viewing is available at the Andipa Gallery on the 3rd and 4th February between `10:00 am and 7:00 pm. Champagne and drinks will be served. The director, Mr Acoris Andipa will be available for comments or interviews.
