Wessel + O’Connor Fine Art is pleased to present a solo show of work by Los Angeles photographer Brian English in the gallery from June 1 – July 28.

English studied Black & White printing in NY at Parsons under William Abranowicz, and was studio assistant to Robert Mapplethorpe, supporting master printer Tom Baril. He worked for Richard Avedon, printing his 1990 Avedon archive project, and also assisted Horst P. Horst.

After a stay in Paris, in 1992 English relocated to LA, where he worked with Annie Leibovitz and co-managed SmashBox Photo Studios. During this time he also worked with many noteworthy photographers including Herb Ritts, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Peter Beard and Helmut Newton.

From 2003 through 2010 Brian worked as an arts Administrator with the Herb Ritts Foundation, working closely with Getty Museum Associate Curator Paul Martineau in producing the 2012 retrospective exhibition “Herb Ritts, LA Style”.

Brian English currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He serves on the Arts Advisory Committee for the charitable organization Friends Without A Border.
