Glen Preece 'Twelve Paintings'
3rd - 19th July 2013
In his third solo exhibition with Panter & Hall, Glen Preece draws on his rich memories of childhood in Sydney and the seemingly fantastical yet nevertheless very real cast of personalities that enliven the streets of his home town. Glen treats all his subjects with that distinctive, gentle humour that cherishes rather than mocks, setting them against a backdrop of a small-town Australia where the centuries merge and eccentricity is celebrated. As Michael Fitzgerald of The Sydney Morning Herald wrote recently “From his studio in the Southern Highlands, Glen Preece has the knack of channelling the spirit of early 20th century Paris with a charming local twist, as a Modigliani like figure cradles a magpie, or a green Volkswagen Beetle takes flight under a Fauvist night time sky."
