Opening Reception: Friday, April 26th, 5-7 PM
We’re excited to kick off the 2013 arts season with a celebration of three exceptional Santa Fe painters whose contemporary work consistently breaks new ground. Using the stirring New Mexico landscape as a starting point, these artists create highly individualized abstractions of the natural world that vibrate with color, energy and spirit.
Peter Burega illustrates the fine line, literally and figuratively, between control and chaos by scoring his panels with a deep grid that imposes order and structure on the seething energy that bursts forth from deep within the painting.
Master colorist Rick Stevens manipulates energy fields and the spaces between them to produce abstractions that seem to shimmer and undulate in the lambent light streaming from some unseen source.
Blending tonalism with hints of realism and impressionism, Gregory Frank Harris crafts light-filled, color-washed evocations of nature that shift before your eyes from pure abstraction to defined landscape and back again, imbuing his living tableaux with a sense of motion and mysticism.
