Hagedorn Foundation Gallery is pleased to present Big Blooms, a solo exhibition of works by acclaimed New York City photographer Paul Lange, whose fashion and editorial work has been featured in Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, GQ, British Vogue, Glamour, Mademoiselle and The New York Times. For the last six years, Lange has used the inspiration and subject matter of renowned Manhattan florist Zeze’s fifty-acre country estate, replete with lavish gardens of blooming specimens, to create his large luxe portraits of flowers. Primarily peonies, and including poppies, roses and irises, the images reflect the artist’s years of studio work with effervescent models and celebrities, who must be coaxed into their prime moment. Working with size, scale and gesture, Lange photographs the flowers on stark white backgrounds, lighting them as human portrait subjects, so that the blooms display whimsically anthropomorphic – and decidedly feminine – characteristics. Big Blooms have been collected worldwide and were recently featured in Architectural Digest as part of Aerin Lauder’s collection.
