Valerie Galloway: Mixed Media opens at Temple Gallery Dec. 7

Reception: Friday, December 7, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

The Temple Gallery is pleased to present the photographs of artist Valerie Galloway in the exhibition Valerie Galloway: Mixed Media, which opens Friday, December 7, 2012 with an artist reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The exhibition features Galloway’s beautiful, hand-colored, toned gelatin silver photographs and archival pigment inkjet prints, influenced by film noire and 1920s avant-garde photography. Galloway’s work is replete with a dark feminine sensuality, epitomized by coded plays on gender and sexuality like the visual double entendre, Doppelgänger.

French born, artist Valerie Galloway lived all over the United States and Europe before graduating from the University of Arizona with a B.F.A. in photography in 1987. Galloway’s practice includes photography, painting and mixed media. The subject matter of her work ranges from the nude to street photography in New York and Paris, as well as Tucson’s Sonoran Desert. Her photographs and paintings have been exhibited all over the country. Galloway’s work has been published in American Photo, Photo Metro, Photonews, Not Only Black and White, La Fotografia, Nerve, Shots and Stylehive. After living in New York City for many years, she now resides in Tucson, Arizona.
