Jun Kaneko's glazed ceramic heads and dangos (Japanese for dumplings) are monumental sculptures covered in polka dots, spirals, stripes, zigzags, geometric shapes and pure color. They are made with large amounts of clay, slowly built by hand using the slab technique. Kaneko's innovative work is in numerous international museum collections, and recently he designed the sets and costumes for the San Francisco Opera's production of The Magic Flute.
Arizonans are familiar with Jun Kaneko's large scale ceramic sculptures on permanent display at Sky Harbor Airport's Terminal 3 and Phoenix Art Museum. Don't miss this opportunity to experience an entire exhibition of these elegant and contemplative works of art.
