1916   Born in Philadelphia, PA.
1937   Bought his first camera.

Won a weekly photography contest in the Philadelphia Evening Public Ledger, which convinced him to pursue photography as a career.
1937 - 1940   Attended Philadelphia’s School of Commercial Art and Lettering.
1948   Embarked on a career as a fashion photographer, after publishing his first fashion photo in an issue of Junior Bazaar.
1959   First solo show was held at Helen Gee’s Limelight Gallery in New York City.
1960   Worked as a movie stills photographer in Hollywood.
1969 - 1974   Lived and worked abroad, mostly in Paris.
1975   Returned to the United States permanently.
1978   Awarded National Endowment for the Arts grant.
1979   Awarded Guggenheim Fellowship.
1981   Awarded National Endowment for the Arts grant.
1982   Awarded National Endowment for the Arts grant.
1984   Stopped photographing completely after being struck by a car while running to catch a city bus and seriously injured.
2001   Died in Manhattan on March 2.
