Jim Dine (amerikanisch, geb. 1935) ist ein Pop-Art-Künstler der frühen 1960er Jahre. Seine Werke orientieren sich besonders am abstrakten Expressionismus und Dada-Assemblagen und er nutzt häufig Collage-Techniken. Dine bezeichnet sich selbst allerdings lieber als Genre-übergreifenden Künstler. Er studierte u.a. an der Ohio State University, wo er 1957 seinen Bachelor of Fine Arts Dine erwarb. 1959 zog er nach New York, um sich seiner weiteren künstlerischen Karriere zu widmen.

Anfang der 1960er Jahre erlangte er große Anerkennung für seine Werke, bei fünf Happenings der Judson und Reuben Gallery, an denen auch die Künstler Claes Oldenburg (amerikanisch, geb. 1929) und Allan Kaprow (amerikanisch, 1927–2006) beteiligt waren. Dine wandte sich wieder der Malerei zu, doch er erstellte auch Mixed-Media-Werke und Assemblagen. Häufig verwendete er persönliche Gegenstände, wie zum Beispiel seine eigene Kleidung, Schuhe und Werkzeuge, um sie in seine Werke einzubinden. 1962 machte er eine Psychoanalyse und beschäftigte sich mit seinen eigenen Erinnerungen und mit dem Thema Identitätsbildung. Durch seine Erfahrungen, die er hier sammelte, entstanden Werke mit wiederkehrenden Sujets, wie Herzen und Bademänteln. Dine ist vor allem bekannt für die Kombination seiner Bildsprache mit persönlichen Eindrücken. Er arbeitet mit verschiedenen Medien, von der Malerei, Zeichnungen und Mischtechnik bis hinzu Skulpturen, Fotografie, Buchillustration und Druckgrafik. Der Künstler lebt und arbeitet in New York und Vermont.
